Stamp Shape Generator

Make a shape with a perforated edge like a postage stamp and export it as a transparent PNG or SVG. Adjust the shape, hole size and spacing, corner radius and frame lines with sliders, or start from Japanese-style presets: mizuhiki cord edge, torn washi paper and a chipped hanko seal. The shape is built as an SVG path entirely on your device.

How to Use

  1. Pick a presetStart from a basic shape (stamp, rounded, round) or one of the Japanese-style presets: mizuhiki cord edge, torn washi paper or a chipped hanko seal.
  2. Tune the edge and coloursAdjust hole size and spacing, corner radius, inner frame and fill with the sliders. You can also put text or an image inside the shape.
  3. Export"Save transparent PNG" gives an image for slides and banners; "Save SVG" gives vector artwork that stays sharp at any size.

About This Tool

The zigzag edge of a postage stamp is what is left of the row of holes punched to tear it from the sheet. This tool turns that shape into decorative artwork — a base for a logo, a label on a banner, a heading on a slide. The outline is an SVG path made only of straight lines and circular arcs, so it imports cleanly into Illustrator, Figma, PowerPoint or Keynote and stays crisp when enlarged. PNGs keep a transparent background and can be exported at 1×, 2× or 3×.

Each side gets the whole number of holes closest to the spacing you set, evenly distributed, so the corners are symmetrical at every size. If the holes are wider than the spacing they would merge with their neighbours, so they are shrunk automatically and a warning is shown. Rounded rectangles keep their corner arcs intact and are perforated along the straight sides only; circles are perforated all the way round. Besides perforation you can choose a scallop (outward semicircles), pinking (zigzag) or a wave.

The three Japanese-style presets are a mizuhiki cord edge (a band of thin red and gold lines, like the decorative cords tied on Japanese gift envelopes), torn washi paper (the edge eaten inwards by large and small wobbles with fine fraying; "Fibres" adds a faint translucent fringe) and a chipped hanko seal (a vermilion ring and lettering knocked out by edge chips, surface wear and uneven ink). Tears and chips come from a random seed, so the same seed always gives the same shape — keep changing the seed until you like the result.

Text is placed as SVG <text> using the device's Mincho or Gothic typeface (Hiragino on a Mac, Yu Gothic / Yu Mincho on Windows, and so on). Opening the SVG on another device or in another app may change the letterforms, so export a PNG or convert the text to outlines in your design app if the look must be fixed. An image placed inside the shape is embedded in the SVG. Building and exporting all happen inside your browser; the text and images you use are never uploaded. Shrink the PNG with the WebP Converter, or turn the SVG into something you can paste into CSS with the SVG Optimizer.

Settings can also be passed as URL parameters (images are chosen on the page). Example: /en/stamp-shape/?preset=washi&w=640&h=400&seed=23 (preset=stamp, rounded, circle, scallop, pinking, mizuhiki, washi, hanko / shape=rect, rounded, circle / w, h = size / r = corner radius / edge=perf, scallop, zigzag, wave, torn, plain / hole = hole diameter / pitch = spacing / seed = random seed / fiber=1 / fill = colour, or none / stroke, sc = outline width and colour / frames, fi, fw, fg, f1, f2 = frame lines, distance, width, gap, colours / text, font=serif, sans, ts, tc = text / chip=0-100 / scale=1,2,3). Values in a URL reach the server as part of the page request.
